Buhari fails to convene FEC meeting again

President Muhammadu Buhari, this week failed to hold the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting today at the Presidential Villa.

Last week, Buhari was absent at the meeting, which Vice President Yemi Osinbajo presided over.

It was the first time Osinbajo presded over the meeting, after the President returned from his 50-day medical vacation in London, UK.

No official reason has been given for Buhari’s failure to convene the FEC this week amid rumours that his health was deteriorating.

State House Correspondents had no prior knowledge of the cancellation, but it was learnt that FEC was not listed ab initio as part of the President’s itinerary for this week.

Speaking last week , Minister of Information Lai Mohammed, said: “President Muhammadu Buhari’s absence at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting is not due to a relapse of his ill-health.

“The President could not attend the FEC meeting because he was busy with other official duties.

“Upon seeing the agenda of the FEC meeting, he decided to mandate the Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo to chair the session instead.

“The President would be in the office later in the day. His absence at the FEC meeting does not mean he cannot work from home.”
