President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday declared that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ran the country aground from 1999 to 2015 that it produced Presidents for the country.
He, however, promised that his government would correct the wrongs that were done to the country by former presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP .
A statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, reports him as stating this at a meeting he had with governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ondo State, APC elders in the state, and national officers of the party.
He had the meeting with them before leaving for the Democracy Park in Akure, the state capital, for the grand finale of the Ondo APC governorship rally.
According to the statement, “Buhari assured Nigerians that determined, steadfast and patriotic people in the APC-led government will transform the nation’s ailing economy, which was run aground by the party that governed Nigeria for 16 years from 1999 to 2015.”
The President used the meeting to advise all the aspirants who lost the party’s ticket to Chief Rotimi Akeredolu to continue to try their luck in subsequent elections, calling on them to take a cue from him who contested four times in his bid to become the nation’s President.
While urging the former governorship hopefuls to remain loyal to the party, Buhari encouraged them that losing elections does not mean they should walk out on the party.
He asserted that the unity of the party was crucial for the outcome of the November 26 election, which is one week away.
The President had in September stated that he will continue blaming past administrations for the current economic challenges facing the country, explaining that the bulk passing was in order for Nigerians to know what went wrong with the country.
