Budget padding: Jibrin charges colleagues to force Dogara, others to resign

Few days to resumption of House of Representatives sittings, former chairman of Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has written to the 360 members of the House, to pressurize Speaker Yakubu Dogara and three others he accused of padding the 2016 budget to resign.

This came barely three weeks after Jibrin submitted his petition against the quartet to Presidential Advisory Committee on Corruption headed by Prof. Itse Sagay.

In a 17-page letter on Friday, Jibrin noted that Dogara’s resignation was necessary in view of the allegations he raised against him and the three others.

“All the statements of Mr Speaker during the last few weeks have clearly proved my innocence. I have decided to find appropriate constitutional and legal means to get the Speaker and his co-travellers to account for the damage to my name and person and the trouble he has caused me and my family.”

“There are even more grounds for prosecution when such bill becomes an act. In the case of 2016 budget, Speaker Dogara, the 3 other Principal Officers used appropriation powers to commit fraud.

“The most patriotic thing we must all do is to insist that Speaker Dogara and the 3 other Principal Officers step down from their offices and hand them over to the anti-graft agencies for prosecution,” Jibrin said.
