Budget padding allegations: Dogara, others to be prosecuted – AGF

The Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has vowed to prosecute those found guilty in the budget padding controversy currently rocking the National Assembly.

Recall that the former Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Abdulmumin Jibrin, had on July 21, accused the Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara;his deputy, Yusuf Lasun; Chief Whip; Alhassan Ado Danguwa and Minority Leader, Leo Ogor of attempting to illegally insert over N40bn into the 2016 budget.

Jibrin had since the first allegation continued to churn out more against the quartet.

But reacting to the allegations, Malami while speaking with newsmen in his office yesterday said nobody will be spared as far as the budget padding scandal is concerned.

He said even those involved are both in the National Assembly, the Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government.

Malami said, “We will investigate the executive and legislative conspiracy as it relates to the constituency projects, with a view to measuring the act of execution of the padded projects over the years and in so doing, learn a lesson therefrom in the budget and its implementation as a law with an aim to prosecute infractions and block leakages inherent in the padding process.”
