Suspended member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin has accused the Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara and a member representing Benue State at the lower legislative chambers, Hon Herna Hembe of plotting to assassinate him due to his budget padding allegations against the Speaker and other principal members of the House.
Recall that Jibrin had earlier in the year accused Dogara, his Deputy; Yusuf Lasun, Chief Whip, Ado Doguwa and Minority Leader, Leo Ogor of padding the 2016 budget to the tune of N40bn.
The Kano lawmaker was suspended from the House for 180 legislative days following his allegation against principal officers.
Following his allegations against members of the House, the lawmaker was reported on Monday to have said he will not return to Nigeria because his life was in danger.
But a member of the House representing Benue State, Herman Hembe, dismissed Jibrin’s claim, saying the lawmaker was running away from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, due to his past deeds.
In a statement, Jibrin reiterated that his life was in danger, stressing that Hembe has been “stalking him.”
“My constrain has always been the threat to my life which I have raised alarm severally that the House cabal led by Speaker Yakubu Dogara are using Hon. Herma Hembe to either assassinate or kidnap me or members of my family. Hon Hembe has been stalking me.
“I have been worried and written to the security agencies but non of these people have been questioned. In fact at some point, they tried to used some elements in one of the security agencies to abduct me. All these were reported by my lawyers.
“It is against this background that I took the decision to stay away from the country until my safety is guaranteed.”
The suspended lawmaker insisted that he would be available whenever called upon by security agencies in regards to his allegation.
“However ever, I will be available once my attention is required in respect of my petition against the Speaker and others or any petition that may come against me,” he added.
