As the ongoing power tussle between Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State and the Minister of State for Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike continues to escalate, a group has called on president Jonathan to wade into the matter.

President General, Ikwerre Youth Congress World Wide, IYC, Mr. Chinedum Smith, said that the Governor and the Minister should settle, so peace could reign in the oil rich city.

According to him, the two politicians who both hail from Ikwerre ethnic nationality are at loggerhead, saying that President Jonathan should help resolve the problems between them.

He said, “We sincerely appeal to the President to please call our big brothers for a dialogue and proper settlement. We know that our father and brother, Dr Jonathan will do this and bring this crisis to a stop.”

While condemning the fracas that broke out at the state House of Assembly recently, the body urged members of the House to pursue peace and take steps to ensure that the House resumes the business of law making for the state.

“We will use this medium to appeal to both Governor Amaechi and the Minister of State for Education, Wike to please sheathe their swords for reasonable dialogue and give peace a chance.”

Smith added that Ikwerre youth had concluded plans to hold a three day fasting and prayer session for God to step into the problem between their two brothers, Amaechi and Wike, adding that “earnest preparation for a three day prayer and fasting crusade to call on God for a spiritual solution to the impasse rocking Rivers State and Nigeria at large has been concluded.”
