Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, says all the eleven passengers onboard the Bristow helicopter that crashed into the ocean on Wednesday survived the accident.

The Accident Investigative Bureau, AIB, had earlier declared the aircraft with registration number: N5BQJ missing. It disclosed that were nine passengers and two crew members on board.

The helicopter was said to be flying into Lagos from an oil rig in Delta State when the crash occurred.

General Manager of LASEMA, Michael Akindele stated that no life was lost in the incident, confirming that “the helicopter ditched inside the ocean” but “all the 11 persons on board are alive.”

“Agip, Mobil and Shell oil companies provided speed boats, while Bristow Helicopter also provided landing boat for the evacuation of the survivors.

“Their survival is in adherence to the use of life jacket and the recently conducted emergency preparedness simulation of air crash by NEMA, LASEMA and other stakeholders.

“Further investigation on the crash will be looked into by the relevant authorities.”
