Boxing Day murder: Prominent Ibo men go into hiding

Following the recent murder of Dr. Ogbo Edoga, a United States-based financial expert, by unknown gunmen on Boxing Day in his country home, Aku, Igbo-Etiti LGA of Enugu State, prominent citizens of the State, especially returnees from overseas have gone into hiding just as they have tightened up security in their homes.

Edoga was murdered last week by unknown gunmen in the house of one of his kinsmen where he stopped over while returning from a nearby village.

Since the gruesome murder of the respected member of ‘Nsukka USA’, an elitist organization of professionals of Enugu North extraction, his country home, Aku, and Odenigbo area of Nsukka urban have been thrown into heavy mourning.

It was gathered that the late Edoga, a financial economist returned to the country to attend the meeting of Nsukka USA, an organisation of Nsukka professionals in the United States to raise fund for the establishment of an ultra-modern medical diagnostic centre in Ede-Oballa, Enugu State.

DailyPost learnt that the assailants escaped in a car snatched from a senior officer of the State Security Service (SSS), who was present during the incident.

However, the snatched car was abandoned by the hoodlums at 9th Mile Corner in Udi LGA, about 15 kilometres to the state capital.

Speaking on the tragic incident, the deceased’s inlaw, Hon Ogbo Asogwa, described Edoga’s murder as most gruesome and barbaric.

President of Nsukka USA, Eddy Agbo, described Edoga’s demise as a great loss to the Association.

He said, “Nsukka has suffered a great tragedy with the senseless and untimely death of our brother, Ogbo Edoga, on December 26, 2012. ‘Nsukka USA’ has agreed to hold an abridged version of the event with candlelight vigil at the Princess Alexandria Auditorium, University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), in honour of Edoga.

We are resolved to affirm and advance the great works of our fallen hero, Ogbo. He lost his life serving our people. Please, join ‘Nsukka USA’ to honour him and drive his passion forward,” he added.
