Unknown armed bandits suspected to be from Utuma in Biase local government area of Cross River State on Friday, allegedly invaded Isu communities in Arochukwu local government area of Abia State, killing ten people.
Several houses were also burnt down during the attack.
Isu community in Arochukwu LGA of Abia State and Utuma community in Cross River State had in recent time clashed over boundary dispute.
Report has it that following the Friday’s clashes, where houses were burnt down, the Isu community has been deserted.
As of the time of filing this report, men of the Nigerian Army and Nigerian police were invited to the scene of the attack, but not much success had so far been achieved as the killings and wanton destruction of property worth millions of naira by the aggressors continues.
Meanwhile, Chief David Ogba Onuoha, a frontline politician and a community leader has condemned the gruesome attack on Isu community, describing the incident as unfortunate.
He said, “I received with huge shock and pain the news of the recent unprovoked and gruesome attack on Isu communities of Arochukwu Local Government Area in Abia North Senatorial District of Abia State.
“Testimonies are to the effect that iheosu, Aba, and Amachi communities of Isu clan in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia North Senatorial District which are boundary communities, were invaded by armed hoodlums from Utuma community in Biase Local Government Area of Cross River State with whom they share boundary.
“The invaders visited severe carnage on the Isu communities. Many lives were lost in the process, homes were razed down. Members of the affected communities now live as refugees in IDP camps in neigbouring communities of Obieze and Ututu.
“The incident is as unfortunate as it is pathetic. I therefore call on the relevant security agencies including the armed forces to urgently intervene to arrest further escalation of the crisis. I also call on NEMA to mobilize relief support to the affected communities.
“I urge the National Boundary Commission to, as a matter of urgency, step in to delineate the proper boundaries to avoid future occurrence of the dastardly act.”
