The Senator who has been representing Ondo North Senatorial District at the red chamber of the National Assembly since 2012, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice has again returned to the senate for the third time after he was announced winner of the election for the senatorial district held on Saturday.
In a keenly contested election for the district, Boroffice, a candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC was announced the winner of the election by the Returning Officer for the district after pulling a total of 53, 199 votes to defeat his closest rival, Tunji Abayomi of the Action Alliance, AA who scored 43,100.
Abayomi, the anointed candidate of the Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu who came second was ahead of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Olusegun Alonge who was placed in the third position with 34,490 votes.
Boroffice who has been having running battle with Akeredolu swept most of the wards of the 5 out of six local government areas making up the senatorial district to emerge victorious.
The animosity between the ranking senator and Akeredolu could be traced to when the Boroffice lost the APC governorship ticket to the incumbent governor at the primary held few years back.
The no love lost relationship further deepens after Boroffice was handed automatic senatorial ticket by the Adams Oshiomhole led APC for what the party described as reward for loyalty as against the wish of Akeredolu who had earlier anointed Tunji Abayomi, a constitutional lawyer for the ticket.
The decision which was reported infuriated the governor who directed Abayomi to contest the senatorial seat under the AA party as well as other aggrieved members of the APC.
