Borno: Refugees harass former Commissioner for Religious Affairs

Internally Displaced Persons from Hawul local government area of Borno state reportedly attacked former Commissioner for Religious Affairs in the state, Hon. Usman Durkwa and the District Head of Shaffa Village, Alhaji Mohammadu Dautiya, when the duo went to Biu to visit them at the camp and to present them with relief materials from Borno state government.

DailyPost gathered that, the entire refugees got bizarre and started throwing dust at them and calling the former Commissioner a murderer.

” We need security and not food. Let them deploy army in Hawul so we can stay in our houses and get food,” the refugees said.

it could be recalled that few weeks ago, some members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, alongside some muslim youths invaded Shaffa town where they killed twenty people and burnt down churches and homes belonging to prominent christian sons and daughters of the area, an attack many of the residents in Shaffa said the former Commissioner and the District Head had sponsored

As a result of that incident, many Shaffa indigenes see the former Commissioner as anti-christian, and as such, christians who fled Shaffa town in the wake of the onslaughts by some Muslim youths have accused the governor emissaries of also being insensitivity to their sufferings.

DailyPost learnt that, Borno state governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima has approved N50 million to the former commissioner and the District head of Shaffa to procure relief materials for thousands of christians who fled their homes and are camped at the IDPs’ camps in Biu. However, the former Commissioner only went to the camps with relief materials worth less than one million naira, a situation which resulted into the attack, before they were quietly taken out of the camp.
