Less than 24 hours to the presidential and national assembly elections, chairmen and secretaries of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 15 wards of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, the largest in Borno State, have joined the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The defectors were received in Maiduguri Friday evening by AbdulKadir Rahis, member of House of Representatives representing Maiduguri Metropolitan Council at the National Assembly.
Rahis, who is standing for re-election, received the defectors on behalf of Governor Kashim Shettima with a promise to give them equal treatment as other APC stalwarts in the state.
Speaking on behalf of the chairmen and secretaries, the chairman of PDP in Bolori 2 ward, Mr. Kabiru Artist said the last minute decision to join the APC was informed by President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to the fight against Boko Haram and Governor Shettima’s roles in the search for peace and his developmental efforts in Borno.
“We have been in the PDP for the past 20 years. All of us, the ward chairmen and secrateries of the 15 wards that make up the MMC have unanimously agreed to dump the PDP and join the APC because of the developmental strides of governor Kashim Shettima and president Muhammadu Buhari’s monumental fight against Boko Haram and ongoing transformation of the country,” Artist said.
In the same vein, PDP Chairman in Mafoni ward, Mukhtar Sheriff said remaining in PDP was a total waste of time.
“The PDP is banking on us but from today the PDP has just foundation. Therefore, on saturday we will come work for all APC candidates from top to bottom, we hail the hard work of Hon Abdulkadir Rahis”, he said.
“By God’s grace, on Saturday we’ll vote in President Buhari, Governor Shettima as Senator for Borno central and to return Abdulkadir Rahis as member representing MMC”.
