Borno PDP challenges Governor Shettima on development programmes

Borno State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Baba Basharu has challenged the state government to come up with development programme that would have direct impact on the people of the state.

He said government should stop deceiving the people with half-done and uncompleted projects as its achievements in the last two years.

Basharu said a lot had happened in the state within the 8 years of Sheriff administration, which gave birth to bad memories living hundreds of women widow and thousands of children as orphans.

The PDP chairman in the state was expressing this opinion while chatting with newsmen Thursday at the PDP office in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

He said at a point he had to run out of the state because of the insecurity situation which according to him was as a result of bad administration under the then ANPP.

Basharu said PDP in Borno State was confident of taking charge of the Maiduguri Government House come 2015, stressing that “APC under Sheriff leadership has no place in Borno politics owing to bad administration of those who are claiming membership of the party in the state”.

He continued that “I feel for Governor Kashim Shettima. I think he is a good person who found himself in a wrong party. He is being deceived by those close to him and some few who claimed to be stakeholders in the PDP, who were said to have switched loyalty recently.

“We are not worried by their defection because we know them and also know that those who left us are only there to make some money for themselves.

“Our worry is that they would still come back with a big story when they could not get what they want. I am particularly, wondering that, the APC which has no exco and is still struggling with identity problem is also relying upon those who think they are relevant people in PDP. These are people who are always like cameleon and are known to have been moving from one party to another.

“In 2011, we came from a zero representation to taking the two out of the three senatorial seat and also two out of the ten seat of the House of Representatives. We even denied the incumbent governor the chance to go to the senate. We know how our mandate for the governorship of the state was forcefully snatched through the court and not through the ballot. The electorates are with us and come 2015, we will capture the governorship seat and make sure our mandate is not snatched from us again”.

While calling on all non-indigenes who fled Maiduguri to come back, the PDP chairman urged the Borno State government to take queue from the Federal Government and embark on massive relief effort to cushion the suffering of the people ravaged by the insecurity in the state.

He noted that the Federal Government had done much in terms of food items distribution and SURE-P.
