A non-governmental Organisation- 1Game has began school enrollment campaign in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, aiming at encouraging street children known as “Almajiri” to enroll into school to acquire basic education.
Mr Philip Obaji, the Coordinator of the NGO, stated this today, Monday, while briefing newsmen on the activities of his organisation in Maiduguri.
He said that the campaign was aimed at promoting and providing support for the less privilege, especially those who don’t have anyone to carter for them.
He explained that the NGO would also provide learning support with more than 10,000 stationery to all the primary school within the Borno Metropolitan Council (MMC).
“We are committed to achieving our objective of ensuring that every Nigerian child has access to free and compulsory basic education. That is why 1GAME has initiated various programs to create access to education for Nigerian children.
According to him, the NGO would collaborate with the state Ministry of Education to facilitate smooth take off of the program in the state. “1GAME is an advocacy and campaign organization that seeks to ensure that every Nigerian child enrolls into school, receives quality education and completes primary school.
“We see education as the most efficient tool that can be used to defeat violence, poverty and ignorance. We want to have a country where every child stays off the streets, gains good knowledge and achieves Universal Basic Education,” he added.
