Borno government vaccinates IDPs’ children against measles, others


The Borno state government, on Monday, embarked on a 5-day immunisation programme for children aged between 0-15 years, across some 13 camps of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Maiduguri metropolis.

Flagging off the programme in Dalori camp, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Salma Anas Kolo, said as part of global initiatives to eradicate childhood communicable diseases, Borno state embarked on integrated measles campaigns in IDPs camps within Maiduguri metropolis.

The Commissioner, who was represented by the Director, State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Hyelni M. Haruna said the 5-day immunisation programme was initiated in collaboration with the United Nations Children Education Fund (UNCEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

She said the vaccination exercise was determined to eradicate Measles, Poliomyelitis, Tetanus, whooping cough, Diphtheria, Hepatitis B.

The immunized children will also be given vitamin and deworming tablets
