Borno Government sponspors orphans to study in Kano schools

About 100 children orphaned by the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno state have been sponsored to be enrolled into various primary schools in Kano state.

Governor Kashim Shettima, who was represented by the Borno State Head of Service, Barrister Yakubu Bukar, while addressing the pupils shortly before their departure to Kano state, congratulated them as the state was ready to see them through in their academic endeavors.

He said this opportunity came as a result of the scholarship offered to the orphans by the Kano state government in collaboration with the Borno state government.

“I hope the gesture will greatly reduce the burden on Borno state in taking care of all the children, who have been orphaned as a result of the crisis in the state. I also express the hope that the relationship that exists between the two states will be sustained,” Shettima said.

Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajja Fanta Baba Shehu, described the gesture as timely, saying that the sponsored orphans were carefully selected from some local governments critically hit by the Boko Haram insurgency.

She added that Governor Kashim Shettima, his counterpart Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and and five others will serve as guardians to the orphans.
