The Borno State Government has awarded contracts to selected members of the Borno State Motor Dealers Association, BSMDA, for the supply of 400 units of 6-seater Sharon Volkswagen model buses worth N520 million.
The vehicles, which were awarded at the cost of N1.3 million per unit, are to be supplied in batches of 100 units.
The buses are meant for distribution to some individuals, politicians, road transport union, workers, student unions, among others.
Some motor dealers at Bama and Baga roads, as well as Lagos street, told our correspondent that the contracts had, however, affected the prices of the said vehicles in the open market within Borno State and its neighbouring states.
This followed the scarcity of the vehicle, which in the past cost between N650,000 and N750,000, but now sells between N1 million and N1.1 million.
In other places like Bauchi, Gombe, Jos, Kano, and Kaduna, the price now ranges between N800,000 and N900,000.
