The Borno state Fire Service has said that the department has recorded 92 cases of fire accident in the state capital in 2014.
Alhaji Musa Hussaini, the Borno Director of Fire Service, stated this in an interview with newsmen in Maiduguri on Monday, where he stressed that the 92 cases occurred between January and October with no dead bodies.
Hussaini said two persons had been rescued in separate fire outbreak.
He said that the fire incidents were mostly caused by candle light, illegal connection of electric wires and nonchalant attitude of residents in their homes.
the Director advised residents in the state to desist from using charcoal to get warm especially during this harmattan period.
“The people should be very” cautious in using charcoal to get warm in their home especially during this harmattan period because it can endanger their lives and their property,”he said.
He explained that the agency had procured 61 fire fighters vehicle that would assist to enable quick response to distressed calls.
According to him, plans are underway to established seven additional fire service sub-stations in the state capital to enhance its services.
He explained that the gesture became imperative to meet the quick demands of resident in case of any fire outbreak.
Hussaini said also that the agency would employ 100 staff drawn from the youth Vigilante known as civilian JTF to work under the agency.
“This will include 65 fire fighters and 35 drivers with a view to compliment the shortage of man power we have,” Hussain said.
