Eight persons including a lecturer at the College of Education Waka, in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State have been reportedly slaughtered by terrorists.
The suspected Boko Haram terrorists were said to have invaded the town after escaping from their camps in Sambisa and other camps in Borno and Yobe as a result of military raid in those areas.
Biu, which is about 187 kilometres away from Maiduguri, has witnessed series of killings and bombings masterminded by the Boko Haram sect in recent times.
Since the declaration of state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa on May 14 this year, the federal road linking Maiduguri- Damdoa- Biu has remained closed by men of the Joint Task Force.
This is following the military raid along the road, which links the camps of Boko Haram in Sambisa Game Forest.
DailyPost learnt that within this week, there has been silent killings in Biu around the popular Kadafur Cinema and other wards where a lecturer at the Waka College of Education and Islamic cleric as well as seven others were slaughtered.
Also within this week, concerned youths of the town staged a street and house to house protest, seeking for the hideouts of terrorists with a view to arresting and handing them over to the JTF.
A reliable source who just arrived Maiduguri from the troubled town told DailyPost on Thursday that “Biu is fast becoming safe haven for Boko Haram, it is no longer safe, there have been pockets of killings by suspected Boko Haram sect in the last few days.
“In fact, most of the killings were targeted at school teachers and Islamic clerics, and the most unfortunate thing is that the terrorists have devised a means of using knives to slaughter their victims, as using gunshots will attract security agencies”.
DailyPost gathered that members of the military task force have been redeployed to the streets of Biu to ensure safety of lives and property, even as some youths have volunteered to assist the security agencies in apprehending those perpetrating the dastardly act.
However, the JTF Spokesman, Leuitenant Colonel Sagir Musa could not be reached for confirmation.
