Boreham Wood manager, Luke Garrard, has admitted that the club may find it hard to sign former Super Eagles striker, Yakubu Aiyegbeni.
Aiyegbeni is currently on trial with the National League team and featured in a 5-0 loss to Reading on Saturday in a pre-season match.
Boreham plays in the fifth tier of English football, one tier below the lowest professional division, League Two and Garrard says the 33-year-old still has dreams of playing at the highest level.
“Realistically I think he has offers and ambitions to play at the highest level. I will never say never,” Garrard told the Boreham Wood Times.
“I spoke to a friend of mine who is friends with Yak and he said where he was at.
“He ‘s back in the area, he lives about minutes away from the club and he was available to come in for training sessions.
“In terms of today (Saturday) it was nice to get involved. He is of a certain level and he is model pro. He’s been involved for the last two sessions and again today we go from there.
“The influence he will have on the youngsters is huge. We had two on the bench against Brentford and four against Reading. It’s a learning curve for them and it’s massive for them.
“He’s played at the top level on a consistent basis. He’s low maintenance, never late and he ‘s been a pleasure.”
Aiyegbeni is a free agent after leaving Turkish Super Lig side, Kayserispor.
