Workers and passengers of the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagod State were thrown into panic yesterday following a tip-off of possible bomb explosion at the terminal.
“Daily Post” observed that various security officials stood at strategic positions and mounted road block to search incoming vehicles, which eventually led to huge traffic jam with-in the Lagos airport.
A combined security team of the Nigeria Police Force, State Security Services, Civil Defence and the in-house aviation security of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria was sta-tioned in strategic places within the airport for the screening of vehicles that entered the airport.
The various security officers were seen using bomb detectors to screen all the vehicles entering into the airport.
Commenting on the issue, the General Manager, Public Affairs, FAAN, Mr. Akin Olukunle said that they had begun regular security checks at the airport in order to ensure that the airport complex was safe and secured for users and airline operators.
He said, “As you know, owing to the security situ-ation in the country at the moment, we always carry out routine checks at the airport to ensure that there is no chance for those plan-ning to come and cause havoc, so it is a regular check to make sure that the travelling public is always safe.”
