Bomb scare in Anambra as police disable IED

An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) manufactured with shrapnel and glued together with cement concrete and connected with two wires, extended to a nearby bush has caused a scar in Anambra State.

The device was detected at Otuocha-Nando road, Otuocha, in Anambra East LGA, near a police post.

A press release by the Anambra State police command’s public relations Officer, SP Haruna Mohammed stated that the command was still investigating to find out those behind it.

Part of the release reads, “On the 20/06/2019 at about 2:40pm, an object suspected to be explosive device was sighted just behind an Observation Point of Policemen attached to 54PMF along Otuocha-Nando road, Otuocha in Anambra East LGA of Anambra State.

“The Area was immediately cordoned off and the Command explosives ordinance disposal unit (EOD) operatives were deployed to the Scene where a white paint bucket filled with shrapnels glued together with cement concrete and connected with two wires extended to the nearby bush was examined and confirmed to be an improvised explosive device (IED).”

Haruna said the device was successfully deactivated and evacuated to a safer location for demobilisation.

The Command called on members of the Public to remain vigilant and report suspicious objects or persons to the nearest Police Station.

He, however, failed to give hint of those who were being suspected of planting the device, or their motive.
