Bomb blast rock Maiduguri as APC holds meeting

No fewer than 6 persons were yesterday, confirmed dead as multiple major explosions hit the city of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Coincidentally, the incident happened when about nine state governors of the newly formed All Progressive Congress, APC, met in the troubled city of Maiduguri to continue its discussion on possible merger of the opposition parties in the country.

Information made available to DailyPost said that apart from the 6 who died in the explosions, several others were injured and are currently receiving treatment.

Details of the Explosions given clearly showed that they occurred simultaneously on Baga road, Customs and Gamboru areas at about 3p.m, while the fourth one went off at London Ciki at about 6p.m.

A top security source lamented over the new development in the state, claiming that the invitation of the state governors to the state to discuss on party merger may have triggered the explosion, advising so strongly against such meetings in the future.

A yet to be confirmed report from a hospital source said about six corpses including security operatives and civilians were deposited at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital’s mortuary, affirming that many others who sustained various kinds of injuries are being treated as well.

Meanwhile, the Police Commissioner in the state, Mr. Yuguda Abdullahi, said he was only aware of one explosion, asserting that he was at the site of the explosion after the incident. However, he did not give details on casualties figure.

We could not reach the Spokesman of the Joint Task Force, JTF, Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa for confirmation while putting this report together
