A powerful bomb explosion on Tuesday evening ripped through a vegetable market at the lorry park along Jimeta bypass in Yola, Adamawa state, just as traders were locking up for the day.
It was gathered that several people are believed to have been killed from the explosion, even though calls put across to the NEMA information officer by DAILY POST was unsuccessful as the number was switched off.
A resident of the city, Gambo Ibrahim revealed that the explosion was deafening and widely heard, adding that “I am currently at the scene and we are helping to remove those injured to the hospital. Seriously, from what I can see here, there are dead bodies littered all over the place.”
When pressed for casualty figure, an eyewitness disclosed that no fewer than 20 people must have died from the blast, believed to have been perpetrated by Boko Haram insurgents.
