It appears Sunday attacks in the Northern part of the country is becoming a norm as a suicide bomber this morning hit St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Ungwar Yero area of Kaduna metropolis.
The attack which reportedly injured the Reverend father of the church occurred around 8:45 AM during the morning mass.
Witnesses say a car approached the church gate and sought to quietly drive into the church. But for the quick intervention of the vigilant security men at the gate who refused him entry, he may have done serious damage.
The bomber apparently knowing he would not be allowed in, reversed his car and rammed it forcefully against the gate of the church.
On collision, the gate caved in as the bomb exploded injuring several church members, some seriously. The suspect is feared dead but no official confirmation yet.
Already, JTF officers and the plice have cordoned off the area while officials of the Kaduna state government officials desperately trying to ensure there are no reprisals by the Christian community. No group has claimed responsibility as the time of filling the report but sources say the attack could be the handiwork of the radical islamist sect, boko haram.
This attack is coming just two days after the nationwide Sallah celebrations.
