President of Igbo Think Tank, Aka Ikenga, Goddy Uwazurike, has condemned the wide criticism the Goodluck Jonathan’s government has faced recently for hobnobbing with former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff over his alleged involvement in Boko Haram activities.
DailyPost recalls that since President Jonathan travelled with the former governor to Chad, he has been put under scathing criticism from concerned Nigerians who believe that he was dining with the ‘devil’.
But in an interview with Daily Independent, Uwazurike defended President Jonathan that concluding that Sheriff is a supporter of Boko Haram without any evidence is wrong.
Uwazurike said, “Was Ali Modu Sheriff implicated? The last time I heard it was El- Rufai who mentioned the man’s name that the Australian negotiator, Davis, said some people told him. At what point did that become proof that he was involved in Boko Haram activities?
“If I tell somebody that he is a murderer of a particular person because someone I met at the bus stop told me he is the one, what evidence do I have that he is the one?”
”I have been following this development and it is worrisome. Simply giving a man a label does not imply he is guilty.
“Neither the negotiator, nor El Rufai or others have produced proof of his involvement. If they have any evidence against anybody, they know what to do. They should write a letter to SSS,” he said.
