Two persons have been confirmed dead with three others seriously injured following an ambush by suspected Boko Haram terrorists along Damaturu, Biu road Sunday afternoon.
A military source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the insurgents had buried IEDs along the highway.
It was gathered that the travelers, who took off from Damaturu on their way to Biu, were ambushed some 60 kilometres to their destination.
According to the source, the militants opened fire indiscriminately on the travelers and that in an attempt to escape, the IEDs went off killing two persons on the spot.
Another report said three people injured from the attack were rushed to the Damaturu specialists’ hospital by security forces on patrol along the road.
According to a hospital source at the Accident and Emergency ward of the Damaturu Hospital, three people have been treated and referred to the Federal Medical Centre Gombe on their relative request.
The Sunday attack has further added fear to travellers along the road as the attack was said to be the number four in two weeks.
In another development, five members of the Boko Haram insurgents have surrendered themselves to the Nigerian Army at Benishiekh in Kaga local government area of Borno State.
They told the military that their wives and children were in Auno village, close to Maiduguri and led soldiers also to their families, after submitting themselves willingly.
