Two female suicide bombers, Friday attacked Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs camp in Dikwa local government area of Borno state, killing three IDPs and injuring six others.
The suicide bombers infiltrate the Internally Displaced Persons camps at Dikwa, the headquarters of Dikwa local government on Friday evening to cause the death of the IDPs.
Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, Deputy Director Army Public Relations, Theatre command confirmed the incident to journalists on phone.
“Yes it is regrettable that two female suicide bombers tried to infiltrate IDP camp in Dikwa, where troops tried to stop them and they refused. Troops shot them, but the IEDs strapped on their body exploded killing thems and 3 other IDPs, while 6 others injured.
Col. Nwachukwu said, normalcy has since return in the camp and IDPs are going about their normal activities.
He said suicide bombers have changed tactic and are bent on causing havoc by all means.
“They have resorted to taking on soft target like IDP camps and other unsuspecting areas. The general public and IDPs in particular needs to always be on alert.
“We always call on the media to help us educate and enlighten the general public, more especially the IDPs to be wary of strangers among them, as you know the Boko Haram insurgents don’t wear uniform,” Col. Onyema said.
He said troops have also discovered a bomb factor in Kote village of Bama local government area, where the insurgents manufacture IEDs.
“It is fortunate for us and unfortunate for the insurgents as the IEDs exploded, killing one insurgent while trying to make a bomb in the factory. The explosion drew the attention of troops who moved to the area and discovered the factory,” he said.
