Boko Haram still controls Abadam, Mobbar in Borno – IDPs

Some Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, from Mobbar and Abadam local governments in the Northern Borno on Friday revealed that they can not return to their respective local governments because their areas are still under the control of Boko Haram terrorists.

The IDPs, who claimed to be from those areas, disclosed this to DAILY POST on Friday shortly after a fight that broke out between them and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF, at the Bakassi IDP camp along Damboa road in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital. They accused the CJTF members of being arrogant and that the fracas ensue when one of them tried to correct an errant CJTF member.

The IDPs noted that they are being embarrassed on a daily basis whenever they went out to look for jobs to do each day. “Sometimes they (CJTF members) demand money from us, which is the problem. This our brother only ask, why are they always disturbing us and the boys said we would not enter the camp and some of us said, we must enter that is the problem,” Umar Zannah said.

He also said that it is not their desire to continue living in the camp, adding that they all want to go back to their villages if not for the fact that their areas are still under the control of the Boko Haram militants.

The IDPs claimed that although the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai was in the communities last year, the soldiers could not remain there after he left as they withdraw and camped at Gubio allowing the Boko Haram militant to return to base.

“You see, Boko Haram members are still in my local government. I am from Abadam and what I am telling you is the truth. No Soldier in Abadam. No Soldier in Damasak. We are aware of the time the Army Chief went there, but we are talking of now. The last time they said, some areas were liberated we know what happened when some people returned home. We want to be sure that such did not happen to us and from our own information, Boko Haram are still in Abadam and Mobbar.” Zannah said.
