Boko Haram, soldiers in gun battle in Yobe town

Reports reaching our newsdesk have it that Nigerian troops and members of the Boko Haram sect are currently locked in a gun duel in Gadaka, a town in Yobe state.

It was learnt that the insurgents launched an onslaught on the town over the night, in a bid to seize it, while soldiers responded this morning to put up a resistance.

A resident of the town, who pleaded anonymity, told newsmen that “there are three fighter jets bombarding the militants as I speak to you now.

“They came to the town in large numbers last night and the military responded this morning. They wanted to take over the town, because they were even telling people to leave and threatening to kill those who would not obey.

“Other terrorists wanted to gain access to Gadaka this morning but they were unable to enter the town because it rained heavily last night and the whole road has become flooded.”
