Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State has warned the federal government established “Save School Initiative Committee” in Borno State against diverting the educational materials donated by the UNICEF and the Norwegian government to the 60,000 public schools across the state.

The governor dropped the warning yesterday during his inspection of the educational materials assembled at the BOPLAST Company Limited.

He said that in the past, there had been cases of diversion of donor agencies assisted educational materials to private schools and that in some cases, the educational materials were found in open markets.

The State Commissioner for Education, Comrade Musa Inusa Kubo, who conducted the governor round the items said that the educational materials were specifically meant for all public secondary, primary and nursery schools in the state and that distribution had commenced for schools and areas that were accessible.

The items supplied include 60,000 school bags, containing pencils, cleaners, rulers and other teaching kits; 340 sporting kits, exercise books, and early child development kits for nursery schools, among others.

Symbolic distribution of the educational materials were made to five council areas, namely, Maiduguri Metropolitan Council MMC, Magumeri, Mafa, Bama and Jere.
