Boko Haram: Shettima creates Ministry for Reconstruction, swears in 21 Commissioners

Shettima assigned a new entrant into his cabinet, Dr Babagana Umara Zulum, an Engineer by training who until his appointment was the Rector of the State owned Ramat Polytechnic in Maiduguri, as Commissioner of the newly created Ministry.

He is expected to deploy his highly regarded experience in aggressive supervision, transparency, prudent management of resources and timely delivery of buildings and other construction works with a view to fast tracking the reconstruction of communities destroyed by Boko Haram insurgents, rehabilitating victims and resettling them in rebuilt communities.

The Governor’s spokesman, Malam Isa Gusau, said in a statement emailed to journalists that Shettima carefully chose the former Rector because of the manner he prudently initiated and supervised many buildings within Ramat Polytechnic out of passion for development of Borno State.

Shettima also said Dr Zulum had on the Governor’s instructions, successfully supervised the execution of some public buildings donated to the University of Maiduguri by Borno State Government, all of which were not delivered in good time but also of very high quality despite use of less resources through direct labour.

“By creation of the new ministry, Governor Shettima has made the post insurgency reconstructions one of his topmost priorities as he is getting prepared to formally flag off the reconstruction works across the State,” it noted.
