The Bring Back Our Girls, BBOG group on Monday criticized the discrimination being faced by women and children rescued from Boko Haram captivity in their respective communities.

According to the Coordinator of the group, Aisha Yesufu, the rescued women and children were labeled by members of their communities as “Boko Haram wives.”

She said, “Women and children rescued from Boko Haram captivity are facing stigmatisation and discrimination. The women are unfairly termed Boko Haram wives.

Yesufu, while expressing hope on the safe return of the Chibok girls during a monthly press briefing to mark the 700 days since the abduction of the Chibok girls, said in four weeks’ time, it would be exactly two years since their abduction.

She said, “In exactly four weeks from today, it will be two full years since the abduction of our Chibok girls in their school on April 14, 2014.

“We are hopeful of their rescue before then, irrespective of what may come to be, whether they are successfully rescued or not, we shall mark the milestone with a global week of action starting Friday April 8, through to Thursday April 14.

“The symbolism of what our Chibok girls represent must never be lost on us,” she said.

The coordinator, while expressing confidence that normalcy would return to the North-East following the present tempo of counter-insurgency, commended the efforts of the Nigerian military.
