The President, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN and founder of the Warri-based Word of Life Bible Church, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, yesterday stated that the 2011 post election violence further fuelled the activities of the Islamic outlawed sect, Boko Haram, stressing that the sect had never for once launched attack on any mosque in the region.
The cleric, while addressing newsmen on the issue noted that no fewer than 1,000 churches had either been bombed, razed or destroyed in the post-election crisis that erupted in the volatile region.
According to him, “We can see that violence has increased, multiplied and intensified right after the 2011 elections and in the post-election violence. I don’t want to say that it is the same people who perpetrated the post-election violence that are the Boko Haram members.
“But it is very possible that some of them participated in the post-election violence. Although Boko Haram preceded the post-election violence, the environment became more conducive and easier for them to accomplish their purpose and do what they needed to do.
Speaking further, the cleric added, “They used the opportunity and they were getting more support and help, and that was what aggravated the situation. I don’t want to say that there was a link between the post-election violence and Boko Haram. But they participated and have continued because the right atmosphere, situation and environment were provided for them to always strike.”
