The Yobe state Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam has assured that the 300 kilometres trans-Saharan road project initiated by his administration to cut across the northern part of the state will be completed before the end of the current dispensation in 2019.

The Governor, while inspecting the road project over the weekend, expressed satisfaction that the first phase stretching from Kanamma- Kafiya a distance of 55 Kilometres has been completed perving way for the actualisation of the entire dream.

Gaidam, who took a ride along the Phase II and III under construction covering a distance of 70 Kilometres from Kafiya through Yunusari to Yusufari, said his decision to embark on the capital intensive desert road project despite the huge sand fixation within the area is because of the neglect the communities have suffered over the years.

The project, he said, will give the inhabitants a sense of belonging and will stimulate economic activities within the various communities who are predominantly pastoralists and farmers who are also blessed with potash, choline among other agricultural produce.

Gaidam assured the various communities along the road that his government will continue to evoke meaningful projects within its available resources to improve their living conditions as well as reconstruct the private and public structures destroyed within the areas by the Boko Haram militants.

Residents along the route who queued in their numbers to wave the Governor in appreciation of the gesture thanked him for giving them a sense of belonging against all odds.

The Governor also inspected the 77 kilometre Damaturu-Buniyadi-Madgza road at the outskirts of Damaturu metropolis awarded for construction by the Yobe State Government in 2013 but which suffered serious setbacks following attacks by Boko Haram insurgents.

Awarded at the cost of N5.9 billion, the road will pass through Gujba local government area, one of two local government areas that were once taken over by the Boko Haram militants.
