Boko Haram: Military equipment, more troops arrive Maiduguri

Military equipment and soldiers on Thursday rode gallantly into Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, apparently to prepare the ground for senior officers in the military following the relocation of the Command headquarters to the state to strengthen its base in the fight against Islamic Sect, Boko Haram.

DAILY POST gathered that, about 1,700 troops have since arrived the capital since the pronouncement of President Muhammadu Buhari during his inaugural speech.

A soldier, who was not authorized to speak to the press said, they were hoping for better days because President Buhari being a former military officer knows exactly what should be done, especially with regard to the welfare of soldiers.

Asked to know what will happen if the situation remains the same, even with President Buhari’s emergence, he said, ”that would be most unfortunate and disappointing.

According to him, “Should the President fail in ensuring better deals for soldiers, we would decide what to do with ourselves, but I am assuring you he would not dare the soldiers.”

Speaking on the ongoing fight against Boko Haram insurgents, he said, “The truth is, it would take longer time than expected to deal completely with the issue of Boko Haram, more especially that they have links with other terrorists organization across the globe. But with sustained vigor, we can minimize their attacks.”
