The governor of Niger State, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has said that the ideals of the Boko Haram members does not represent the Islamic religion.
He said this yesterday in Bida at the 29th edition of the state quranic recitation competition. The Governor said that the position of the terrorist organisation veered off clearly from the tenets of Islam.
Aliyu said those behind Boko Haram terrorists organisation were ignorant as Islam is a religion of peace.
He lamented the negative perception some ignorant and misguided Nigerians had given the religion,
Aliyu reiterated that Islam is not only a religion of peace but democratic with very broad perspective in relating with people of other faiths and how to conduct the affairs in the society without over riding other people’s right.
The governor said the only way to correct the menace of religious ignorance is to encourage Qu’ranic trainings and competitions, adding that “until ignorance of Islam is completely tackled, mischievous and self serving people will continue to project the peaceful faith in negative perspective”.
