Boko Haram kills 38 civilians in Niger


Report says about 38 people have been killed by Boko Haram militants in the south-eastern part of Niger.

Niger Minister for Interior, Hassoumi Massaoudou, on Thursday said the insurgents carried out the attack Wednesday night, adding that most of the victims were women and children.

Massaoudou said, “Members of the Boko Haram terrorist group have attacked the villages of Lamana and Ngoumao… The initial death toll is 38 civilians, among them 14 men, 14 women and 10 children.”

It was learnt that the villages attacked by the insurgents are located in the Gueskerou area of Diffa province near Nigeria.

According to the Minister, the country’s security operatives are working towards “capturing and neutralising” the attackers.

“Air and ground operations are currently underway and the government is doing all it can to stop Boko Haram from carrying out more attacks, ”Massaoudou said.
