Four gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko terrorist, on Tuesday, shot dead six members of vigilante youths known as civilian JTF in Damasak, Mobar Local Government Area of Borno State.
Damasak shares border with Niger Republic, where some of the insurgents were believed to have fled to after they were dislodged from their camps by special security forces.
An eye witness who does not want his name in print said the victims, mostly traders, resident in Maiduguri, were shot dead around 1:00 a.m in a house where they passed the night.
The names of the vigilante members killed were given as Ismail Alhaji Bunu, 36, Malam Goni, 27, Buzu Mohammed Modu, 20, Jibrin, 30 and Bukar Bako, 20.
DailyPost correspondent learnt that the victims who trade in women necklace were killed alongside their driver.
They were said to be regular traders at the Damasak Monday market.
A member of the vigilante, Mohammed Kariyama, who also went to Damasak but did not pass the night in the same house with the victims said “we travel together
to Damasak to trade in necklace but I did not sleep in the same house with them. It was in the morning that I learn of the incident”.
DailyPost correspondent gathered that the bodies of the victims were brought to Maiduguri by policemen from Damasak in a Pick-up van to police station along Baga road and later conveyed to their family houses for burial.
Chairman of the vigilante in Baga road, Bakura said he received the news with shock, adding that they were working tirelessly to defend the state from the insurgents.
