Damaturu, the Yobe state capital, one of the troubled states in the northeast has came under heavy fire as military and the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram exchange shooting from 5:30 am to 7:54 am on Monday.
According to security sources in the capital, the Islamic sect, forced themselves into the city when they started shooting around Bukar Abba University, along Gujba road where a heavy fight ensued between them and the military. The situation was later brought under the control of the military.
The source said, all security operatives are under serious alert as some of the insurgents who melted into the city might invade other parts of the city.
“There is no battle of such that will end without casualties. However, we have minimal casualty, while the insurgents suffered greater casualty. I am not in the position to tell you how many soldiers or other security operatives or Boko Haram that were killed because I was not counting. We are busy for now, we shall talk later please. Thank you.” He said.
Speaking to a resident at Umaru Tukur, he told Our Correspondent that, ”everybody is indoors at the moment, praying for peace as calls made amongst resident informed that corpses littered the streets, but the military are in control of the situation.”
A hospital source at the Sani Abacha General Hospital said, corpses are being brought to the hospital. ” I did not count, but those who were bringing the corpses said, so far they have counted over 70 corpses.”
