Victims of Boko Haram attacks in GWOZA town, GWOZA local government area of Borno state, northeast-Nigeria have revealed to newsmen in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital shortly on arrival from Gombe that the claims, even by the military that their men were in GWOZA town fighting terrorists was far from the reality on ground.
The victims who were brought into Maiduguri on Thursday, by a renowned activist, Professor Hauwa Biu gave the stunning revelation on arrival.
According to one Zakariya Ibrahim, there has not been any military presence in GWOZA town since the last ten days. He said such claim could only be true if the military authorities want to tell Nigerians that, those occupying the crisis town are not Boko Haram insurgents.
Speaking to newsmen, Ibrahim said, it is only God that knows why they are still alive. ” What we have seen with our eyes is something we never thought we could see in our life time. Corpses are littered everywhere in GWOZA and every street has been turn into a graveyard. At a point, women were burying corpses as no man was spared by the sect members who took control of our town.”
Narrating further, he said, they started hearing the sound of gunshots at about 5:pm that fateful day while they were sitting in front of their shops. ” before we could realize it, they were everywhere and we took to our heels. Those who fell by their bullets, we could not wait to carry, and those of us who are still alive do not know how we made it to the mountains. We got there anyway; some with broken limbs, others with torn muscles and some of us with broken arms or gunshot wounds. They pursued us to the mountains and we continued through the night until God, in his mercy, helped us to escape.”
He said anyone that got to them from behind came with a news. According to them, the last of their group met them at Madagali on Wednesday, 13th, 2014, and the news remained the same. The news was that there were no soldiers in GWOZA, as the sect members continue to kill whoever they see.
Another victim, Binta Sani told newsmen that, she ran with her sisters because the sect members told them that, they were bringing their women to settle with them in GWOZA. According to her, they left their aged parents and their sick brother at home, with their fate in God’s hand.
