Internally Displaced Persons in Gubio road camp yesterday evening staged a protest in the camp.
They alleged that they had not been provided with food for more than three weeks.
DAILY POST learnt that the action became violent until arrests were made by security operatives.
An IDP, Bafu Goni told our correspondent that five vehicles belonging to some non governmental organizations were vandalized during the protest.
He said the grievances of the IDPs was as a result of non-supply of food, reduction of food ration and constant and unnecessary registration and re-registration of the IDPs.
“The protest was a last resort as all efforts to resolve the matter peacefully proved impossible,” he said.
The IDPs claimed to have reported the case to National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA including their local government authorities but no action was taken.
“The arrested persons were released, and civil society groups have assured that they will take up the case to the relevant bodies,” Goni added
Both NEMA and SEMA could not be reached for comments with regards to the protest as of the time of this report.
