Boko Haram: Gunmen kill 8 in Borno

Again, not less than 8 persons were allegedly killed in a fresh violence that broke out in Gwoza local government area of Borno state. In less than three days to the official visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to the state, Gunmen were said to have attacked and burnt down the local government Divisional Police Headquarters and a Bank.

DailyPost gathered that, trouble started at about 8:00 pm when the gunmen storm the town in two Hilux Vehicles, attacking the Police station, killing an Inspector and seven other civilians.

A resident who spoke to newsmen said that the gunmen also attacked one of the first generation banks. According to him, ‘there was an unconfirmed story that the gunmen also went on to kill the Bank Manager, but some people said the Manager was seen in the morning, meanwhile, the attack was carried out in the night when no banking business was going on.’

Also speaking with newsmen, one Ishaya Yahaya who hails from Gwoza in Maiduguri told our correspondent that, two of his kinsmen from ‘Baya Dutse’ were affected, while the other victims were said to have come from Gwoza town.

“I was actually affected by this attack because last night, I received a called from home that two of my kinsmen were killed in the attack in Gwoza. My problem now is that I have to follow through Chibok because there is curfew in Bama town from 6:00am to 6:00pm. I may not get home on time. This is bad, especially that the President is planning to come to the state.” He said.

It would be recalled that, leader of the Boko Haram sect has recently threatened to attack some states in the north, which include, Borno and Yobe state, as such; many believe that, the recent attacks may not be unconnected with such threats by the sect.

While all attempts to get the Borno state Police Commissioner, Yuguda Abdullahi to comment on the attack failed, a senior security officer in the state who spoke to newsmen said “An Inspector was killed and seven other civilians.”
