Boko Haram: Group calls on human rights lawyers for support against insurgents

Human Rights Lawyers across the Federation have been called upon to give their support to the Nigeria Military in the onslaught against Boko Haram insurgents in the North Eastern Nigeria.

In a statement issued in Abuja, Executive Secretary of Centre for Social Justice, Equity and Transparency (CESJET), Comrade Isaac Ikpa noted that moral, social and Legal support which culminated the campaign against insurgency in the past were part of synergies that decimated Boko Haram attacks substantially, while explaining that it would be counter-productive this time to attack military leadership, especially the Chief of Army Staff.

The group said: “achievements recorded by the present military leadership in tackling insurgency were traceable to supports from all angles, hence, it was counter productive for an attack on military leadership, but what they need now was continued encouragement in order to finish up pockets of attacks.”

The group further berated Human Rights Lawyer, Mr Femi Falana for commending Nigeria Military in the fight against insurgency, only to turn around and begin to advocate for removal of COAS, a situation they said was the wish of those opposing the battle against insurgents for their selfish reasons.

“The acknowledgement of efforts by Nigeria Military by Human Rights lawyer and the latest attack on the COAS demonstrated the dilemma of those that have openly declared their hatred for the nation”, the group posited.

The group expressed that they were aware of the antics of those working surreptitiously against the present administration’s commitment in the fight against insurgency, while advising that well meaning individuals and organizations should not join their voices to abort successes recorded so far, noting that clamour for ouster of any Security head may not be in the interest of the nation.
