Dr Meleh made the commendation on Tuesday, in Abuja, at the end of a 2- Day 2017 Mid-Term Review Meeting, MTR to measure the impact that NSHIP has over the life-span of the project which took place at Nigeria Air force Base Conference Centre and Suite.

Briefing Journalists, Dr. Meleh said, the introduction of AF-NSHIP/PBF in Borno is timely considering the increase in demand of Health services by the people, especially Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who have started returning back to their liberated communities.

His words: “The coming of AF-NSHIP with support from World Bank and our Project Implementation Unit (PIU) at the state level, has really added more development to our health system. Apart from increase in utilization and coverage of maternal, child immunization, reproductive and disease control health interventions, the Project has also helped in health workers motivation, transparency and accountability in the whole process.

” NSHIP is a results-based financing program in which results achieved at all levels of the health system are rewarded as motivational allowances to each staff, according to his/her commitment and performance”. Meleh said.

He recalled that the World Bank had in 2011 injected the sum of US$171.5 million (U.S Dollars) into the NSHIP to strengthen Performance Based Financing (PBF) system across Primary and Secondary Health facilities in the pilot states of Adamawa, Nassarawa and Ondo since 2011.

“This year, Additional Financing – Nigeria Health Investment Project (AF-NSHIP) was extended in five north east insurgency ravaged states of Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Taraba and Gombe inline with President Muhammadu Buhari’s mandate to rehabilitate and restore health service delivery system.” He added.
