Following past violent activities of Boko Haram and lingering security doubts, voting is to be conducted during the coming elections in only three polling centres in the Madagali Local Government Area (LGA) of Adamawa State.

The state INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Kassim Gaidam, who disclosed this at an event organised by the European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES) to sensitize internally displaced persons (IDPs) on the need to exercise their voting power in the coming elections, explained that the decision was a response to security advice.

Gaidam spoke at ECES’ ‘Prevention of Election Violence and Education for Inclusion in Nigeria (PEV-EDI) programme in Malkohi and Fufore IDPs camps near Yola, through the INEC Head of Public Affairs in Adamawa State, Mrs. Rifkatu Dukku, saying the three special polling units to be used in Madagali were what suited prevailing security atmosphere in the council area.

Rifkatu, while explaining the peculiar polling arrangement in a telephone interview on Thursday, named the three polling units to be used in Madagali as GSS Madagali, GSS Shuwa, and Gulak Central Primary School, Gulak.

She said, “Right now what we have for IDP voting in Adamawa State is only in the Madagali LGA. Voting in the whole of Madagali is going to take place in Gulak Central Primary School, GSS Madagali and Shuwa. These are the only approved centres for the council area.”
