Displaced police officers of Mopol 41 Base in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital has received assistance from the National Emergency Management Agency, (NEMA).
It could be recalled that a severe attack on the Mopol 41 Base in December 2014 by the dreaded Boko Haram militants, left the police officers and men of the command homeless.
The state coordinator of NEMA in Damaturu, Bashir Garga while presenting the materials to the Yobe police command decried the neglect of security formations in the wake of attacks on them by the Boko Haram sect, stressing the importance of security forces in the protection of lives and property of the people.
During the 1st December 2014 attack on the troubled north east state, the mobile police base was a major target as structures of the base, security and individual vehicles and cars were burnt by the insurgents.
The pathetic situation of the officers and men of the command was presented to the AIG zone 12 by the state commissioner of Police, Zannah Ibrahim during his recent visit to the state.
The presentation of relief material in this regard by NEMA is a swift response to the needs of the displaced policemen in line with its set objectives.
Bashir Garga said their work was not restricted to the Internally Displaced Persons but to others who were under emergency cases across the country and assured that the gesture will be extended to other security operatives in similar circumstances.
The items were received by the Damaturu Area Commander Mr Yemi Samuel, who represented the state Commissioner of Police Zannah Ibrahim.
He appreciated the gesture which according to him will assist the command greatly in the protection of lives and property of its citizens.
Items presented include: matrasses, tents, plastic buckets, detergent, building materials among other food and non-food items.
