The Cameroonian Information Minister, Issa Bakari, has clarified that the Chibok schoolgirls kidnapped by the deadly Boko Haram sect are not among the 900 hostages recently liberated by the country’s military.
Bakari, while speaking with newsmen said, “The people that were freed are just villagers, the schoolgirls who are missing are not amongst the group.”
The announcement is coming on the heels of hopes being raised following the December 4 release of some hostages held by Boko Haram in Cameroon.
It would be recalled that over 200 schoolgirls were in April 2014 abducted by the Boko Haram sect from their dormitories in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State.
Analysts believe that the girls have been split into small groups and made to settle with Boko Haram families in villages both in Nigeria and Cameroon making it difficult for law enforcement to track. This is as Abubakar Shekau had claimed that he has married off the missing girls.
