Ahmad Salkida, the Nigerian journalist who has access to Commanders of Boko Haram sect, has revealed that the recent attack on the camps of the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, have created rancour within the rank and file of the group.
Ahmad on his website, Salkida.com, quoted a source within the group as saying that there is disarray within the camp as some of them were silently grumbling while others openly voiced their opposition to the elusive Abubakar Shekau over these “unexplained attacks on the innocent.”
According to Ahmad, the source disclosed that the only reason given for these attacks was that the victims had run to government-held territories.
The source said the sect leaders saw the IDPs as deserving the attacks because they are perceived as supporting the government’s war against them.
The attacks on the IDP camps show “nowhere is safe for these people and continues to pile pressure and embarrassment on the government,” the source said.
Ahmad further quoted his source as saying a member within the leadership rank, however dismissed the claim and warned against attacking displaced persons.
The source said, “We cannot be subjecting more hardship and grief to the people more than the army of the Kufr (unbelievers) subjects them to.”
Ahmad, also stated that some members of the sect were unhappy with the individual vengeful ploy and attacks which is contrary to the group’s original doctrine-driven campaign.
“What we now have is people are left to choose between the army of Kufr and us, and lately, the people are increasingly choosing the Kufr,” the source was quoted as saying.
