Nigerian Army has designated the 21 Amoured Brigade Bama to a special brigade.
This, it explained, was to further consolidate on the successes achieved by troops in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast, Nigeria.
Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai stated this on Thursday during his operational visit to the brigade in Bama local government area of Borno State.
He also assured troops that their welfare will always get adequate attention in addition to the timely provision of their operational kits and uniforms.
He commended troops for their resilience, loyalty and hard work which contributed to the clearance of Boko Haram terrorists from the Sambisa forest and environs including Cameroonian borders.
“I commend you for the very good work you are doing. The ongoing operation which you have shown resilience is very encouraging. I want you to understand that we must clear the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists.
“Since we can pick any of them by hand, there is no reason why they should be allowed to penetrate any of our locations and distort our operations.
“We have designated 21 Amoured Brigade Bama to a special Brigade, and you will see the difference very soon. We will make sure that every operational requirements and logistics are provided soon to upgrade the brigade,” Buratai said.
Buratai visited the popular Alau Dam in Konduga, Konduga Local government area of Borno state and had gunboat exercise with the Nigerian Army amphibious troops.
The Dam was formerly occupied by the Boko Haram terrorists before they were chased away from the area by the Nigerian Military.
